Three Wishes
Three Wishes (Drei Wünsche), land art installation, SüdpArt, Munich, 2017.
SüdpArt is an bi-annual art project dedicated to the restoration of a city forest where artists are only allowed to use natural materials or organic matter found on the forest floor to create their artworks.
My project ‘Three Wishes’ created a space of contemplation to bring focus on the forest. Incorporating the symbols of a triangle and divining rods, a magical space is defined amongst the trees using the natural materials of the forest and coloured jute fabric dyed red with organic dyes.
The three selected trees stand in a triangular relation to each other and all have forked branches reminiscent of divining rods. They are wrapped in red hessian from the base to just above the fork. These large divining rods inject their energy into the forest floor. Within the triangle of the trees, a new space is defined. People are able to enter the space from the path where they can contemplate the forest and make a wish, or two or three.
