Watershed
"Watershed" continues my photographic exploration of landscapes, myth, and folklore. This series is inspired by a forest devastated by acid rain in the 1980s — now slowly regenerating — at a point where fresh water flows into three countries: Austria, the Czech Republic, and Germany. In winter, the forest transforms, inhabited by silent guardians of ice and snow.
A watershed is both a physical divide and a metaphor for a turning point — a moment of irreversible change. It can be sudden or planned, natural or imposed. In this case, the catalyst was acid rain.
Like a modern-day fairytale, "Watershed" blurs the line between reality and imagination. The trees and rocks undergo a quiet metamorphosis, becoming winter sentinels standing watch over their frozen world. The summit, clear and mystical, purifies water through freezing. Ice-bound peaks shimmer against the blue sky, while the forest becomes a realm of silent watchers, guarding the snow and ice until spring’s thaw, when water resumes its endless journey.
Nature’s rhythm repeats each year — winter as a moment of cleansing, a "Watershed."
