Unfinished Apocalypse
“Unfinished Apocalypse” is a yet unfinished series of gouaches created in 2015 inspired by the visual propaganda of ‘Islamic State’ in Syria.
The global media presence and the images of staged acts of power by the Islamic State terrorists in the 21st century are deliberately set in relation to Western art reminding us of Albrecht Durer’s horsemen of the apocalypse or Arnold Böcklin’s frightening images of an impending doomsday.
Unfinished Apocalypse I-V, gouache on paper, 100 x 70 cm, 2015.
IS NOT, artist book, 20 x 20 cm folds out to 100 cm, 2015
