Trees to the Skies (Die Bäume zum Himmel)
Wrap your arms around your favourite tree, close your eyes and make a wish. These are the instructions on how to use this art installation to bring focus on your dreams. Each tree is like a monumental divining rod. A divining rod is a Y-shaped stick made out of wood or metal that is used to find water, metal, ore, objects, or in this case peoples dreams, wishes and desires. "Trees to the Skies" invites viewers to focus on the forest and hopefully it provides a new experience of nature.
In "Trees to the Skies", nine large trees with distinctive forks are wrapped in red coloured ecological jute fabric up to a height of 6 to 9 metres. Each tree is wrapped with fabric from its base to 2 metres above the fork, transforming them into wish trees. The selected trees are scattered throughout the forest and biotope reserve near Sankt Emmeram, Munich, to create an art experience trail that allows people to appreciate the shape of the trees, look up at the sky and feel the magic of the forest.
This project was funded by the Bavarian State Ministry of Science and Culture, Kunst für uns program for art in public places and the Bezirksausschuss 13 Bogenhausen, City of Munich.
