We all hope and dream and when we travel we go with good intentions. This work is a giant wishing pole set upon a small hill in the alps. A place that calls for meditation and contemplation. It is easy to walk up to the piece from the town and experience the smells and textures of the landscape before touching the pole in some way and making a wish.
The wood was found at the bottom of the valley in the Rheinschlucht near Versam and brought up to Tenna to be worked on. Apparently wood that comes from beside the rive has more power to fulfil wishes. I carved the tree into its form and applied the deep red color.
I made this new sculptural installation during the first Alps Art Academy in Tenna, Switzerland, the first land art project to take place in the Safiental. More than 30 international artists participated in the event and art works can now be found up and down the valley.
‘I wish I was there / Ich wünschte ich wäre Dort’ was made as part of this land art project. It started on 2nd July and can be viewed through to 16th October.
